The Black Forest is in the South-western part of Germany, the Rhine River is the natural border separating Germany from both France and Switzerland.
The Black Forest (Schwarzwald) is an area of over 2,300 square miles of imposing mountains, gentle hills, deep valleys and old forests consisting mostly of dark pine and fir trees which gave rise to its name.
The town of Bräunlingen
Braeunlingen is cozy and relatively quiet, but well positioned for forays in the Black Forest, the Bodensee region, and the Wutachschlucht (Wutach River Gorge). For groups it is also possible to visit the local Loewenbraeu brewery and to taste some of their beer straight from the barrel, which is equally interesting and fun and a great group event.
Bräunlingen is a historic town in the South of the Black Forest, it is conveniently located near the intersection of 3 major federal highways for easy access to the most interesting sightseeing destinations the Black Forest has to offer. It is next to Donaueschingen, the originating point of the Danube, and between Freiburg and Lake Constance, between Villingen and Lake Titisee, - and between Baden-Baden and Schaffhausen in North Switzerland (Shaffhausen is home of the Rhinefalls - the largest waterfalls in Europe). Due to its convenient location it is ideally suited to explore and enjoy The Black Forest and surrounding destinations such as the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen, Lake Constance, Switzerland and Alsacia.
The town was founded more than 700 years ago by the dukes of Zaehringen, who had been powerful figures in the early middle ages. The town of Bräunlingen, with its idyllic old town, the historic town wall and the city gate bear witness to the past. The old romanic church and the museum are also worth a visit.
As mentioned above, the town is conveniently located near the intersection of three Bundesstraßen (federal highways) in the immediate vicinity of Donaueschingen. The hotels location is perfect for excursions within the Black Forest (Schwarzwald), like Titisee, Feldberg, Wutach Gorge (Wutachschlucht), Freiburg, and to many highly interesting sightseeing destinations in Southern Germany (such as Rottweil, Danube, Lake Constance, Mainau, ...), to Switzerland (e.g. Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls at less than 30 miles from our Guesthouse), to Alsace, ...
The Southern Black Forest Nature Park
Braeunlingen and the surrounding area is part of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park (Naturpark Südschwarzwald), one of the most beautiful and interesting holiday and recreation destinations in Germany.
With its typical countryside, beautiful scenery, variety and intact nature, the Naturpark Südschwarzwald (Southern Black Forest Nature Park) is an extremely interesting region. The Southern Black Forest is unique in that wild nature and many types of economies like farming, forestry, tourism co-exist relatively harmoniously – this is the basis for the region’s Nature Park status.
